"Is he about my age?" I asked.
"I dunno...maybe," was the reply.
"Is he good-looking? Got nice hair?" I pressed.
They were uncomfortable with my totally-unrelated-to-the-business-at-hand line of questioning, so I dropped it.
Twice since then my boss has met with their boss and it looks like he might do some consulting work for us. I was to be apart of a meeting with them last month, but due to the wind storm it got postponed til this afternoon. For two years now, I've wondered if this fellow is the guy I went to Jr. Hi with who was Oh So Cute.
He was one year younger than me and I had a very private crush on him. He hung with guys my age and my brother's age, so often we ended up doing group things together... like meeting at Guildford parking lot and driving go carts. (My brother and I had some sick 5 horsepower racing carts.) He had this feathered hair. And killer smile. And intense eyes. And ... he was in grade 8.
Anyways, I walked past the board room to get a glass of water before our scheduled 1:00 meeting this afternoon - and there he was. In my workplace. Right out of '76 ...
My boss introduced us and he said, "Nice to meet you" very formally.
"Did you go to Johnston Heights Jr. Hi?" I asked.
"Uh, ... well... let me think... did I?" he hedged.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure you did. I remember you driving my go-cart..."
"Noooo. I don't remember that..."
"No? In the Guildford parking lot?"
"I remember Guildford, but ... sorry. I don't think we've met."
I tell him my maiden name and he still has a blank look on his face.
Do I feel stupid?
Only totally.
I called my mom after work.
"Guess who I had a meeting with today?" And then I say his name.
"Oh, is he still so cute?" was her immediate response.
Funny how he made an impression on both of us like that.
Anyway, I came home and checked my year book from the year I was in grade 9.
I wonder if I wrote something stupid in his?
Three things I'm thankful for:
1. Spent the evening at the Mall with Max and Drew. They are now finished Christmas shopping too.
2. I am thankful Clint has a scanner. How else would I have been able to share that cute year book entry?
3. I have friends who own condos at ski resorts who let me and my boys stay there... I'm so looking forward to this weekend. You have no idea.
Shalom,
