Not a quiet evening at home as anticipated

"Jane? Can we get together? Please?" She was crying.

I made sure the kids had rides to youth, changed out of my 'unpack a zillion boxes" clothes, painted on another layer of make up and met her for coffee.
She wanted to talk. But more than that, she wanted to escape. Escape the reality of being in a bad marriage. Escape the feeling that she was a horrible mother. Escape the pain of knowing that her life wasn't going to turn out like she had hoped. Escape the grief of watching her family disintigrate because of bad decisions.
She wanted to see Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant.
I suggested the fairy tale ending of a romatic comedy would probably just make things worse.
Truth is, very few of us will marry Prince Charming.
We will marry guys. Guys with a whole lot of non-Prince-Charming-like habits. The trick is to love them anyways.

But if they're real dicks, like, in the case of my friend's husband, and just don't have the wiring to be faithful - then leave. But don't leave hoping for a Prince to swoop into your life and make things all better.

Chances are, you'll be single. Maybe forever. You have to find a way to be happy in that state. Cuz you'll drive yourself nuts looking and waiting and praying and hoping and dreaming otherwise.

So, we cried about crappy marriages, then went to see Breach.

It was probably better than I give it credit for.
I couldn't get past the fact that Ryan Phillipe was fooling around on Reese Witherspoon while filming this movie, if the tabloids are to be believed.
And in the end, it turned out to have the fairy tale, happily ever after ending we were trying to avoid. He not only said "sorry" (which, oh my goodness, is huge to me. A guy apologizing? Whoa - he's a keeper...) he also demonstrated his love in an unselfish way. I like that in a movie. It's good for my boys to see a successful, strong movie character put love first. :)

Jane!
You were talking right to my heart in this post. Tell your friend that God loves her and has a plan for her.

You are wonderful; I read your blog every single day and I admire you.

Read my blog tonight.
