'nother memory

Back in the day, my dad was not much of a Christmas lights fan. Maybe it was lack of time, maybe it was lack of appreciation for the way Christmas lights scream "Merry Christmas, we LOVE this time of year!"Or maybe it was simply a matter of it never occuring to him or my mom that lights would ROCK the house.

So the Christmas that I was 13 and my sister was 8, we dragged a 100 foot extension cord from the house to the tiny tree beside the driveway and put a string of lights on it. Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought that every year as the tree grew, we'd add another string of lights, so we never removed those 25 lights when the season ended.

Sadly, that tradition never caught on, and we never did add more lights. Nor did we ever remove the original strand. Somewhere near the top of that tree (pictured in the middle, above) is a 32 year old set of Christmas lights.

Cool, eh?

Three things I'm thankful for:
1. This house has had a revolving door all weekend, ushering in an assortment of boys who have made themselves at home in my family room.
2. Clint cleaned up the family room tonight.
3. The (recently repaired) bookshelves are now full, housing almost 100 books and 30 chocked full photo albums. I can see the floor again.

Shalom,
