It's Valentine's Day.
And when I left for work I saw a plastic bag tied to my front door handle. A surprise gift! How lovely.

It was a card and three Cream Eggs from Karm.

I cannot think of a nicer way to start a working day. Nothing like the buzz of Cadbury chocolate filled with sickly sweet, ooey gooey icing. Yum, yum yum. But even better than the buzz in my brain from the sugar high was the schmoozy feeling in my heart that someone loved me enough to go to all that trouble.

I had it in my mind to do something kinda special with my kids this evening. None of them recognize today as being special in any way, in fact they're rather vocal about their negative views of the card, floral, and chocolate companies that pressure people into making this day a big deal. But still. It's not about cards, flowers and chocolates. It's about showing some love to those you care about. And yes, OK, I agree with you. You shouldn't have to wait til a card company tells you its time to say I Love You.

But honestly? Some people need someone to tell them it's time to say I Love You.

Anyway, I wanted to let my kids know I loved them. And I wanted to do something to show it. In the olden days I'd buy them each a pair of boarding shorts. And do something different for dinner. And whatnot. Etc. And so on.

But honestly? None of them want to do anything with me. Not go out for dinner. Not go to a movie. Not go to a show. Not with a fox. Not in a box. Not ... not ... not anything. And crap. This is not my favorite stage of parenting.

We did end up at Nikko's for sushi, but it was a painful experience. Two out of the three of them were not pleased to be there. And no one wanted to participate in a conversation. Holey Hannah. If any of you can read my mind, and see that I'm even thinking of repeating tonight's crazy idea, just hammer me upside the head with one of the four African machetes sitting on my kitchen counter.

I'm going to pray for a granddaughter.
One that likes to talk.
To me.

Three things I'm thankful for:
1. Tempura Yam
2. LOST (WHERE is this season going?)
3. Tricia. I love doing a photo blog with her. Can you figure out this week's theme?

what is it with some boys not liking this day of love!?!
don't worry one day you will get that granddaughter and she will be everything you wished for! (just ask my mother in-law, she has 3 boys too)

(and above mentioned mother in law gets to do all the fun things with her grand daughters that her sons won't. Sometimes the daughter in law even gets to play too).

Thanks again for Wednesday night. The card making was awesome. You are awesome.

And no, I can't guess the theme. What is it?!
