And then ...

It's 1:00 am and I'm sitting here, eating Captain Crunch. Dry. Right out of the box. There's no chocolate in the house.
Yum.
I might wash it down with a glass of milk.
But then again, maybe not.

So, guess what I did today?
I went to TWU and saw Pride and Prejudice, with three friends who jumped at the opportunity to buy 1/2 price tickets for a matinee show that released 25 tickets at the last minute.

Has anyone else seen it?
Weren't the actresses (is that a word anymore? or is it politcally correct to call everyone, regardless of gender, an acTOR?), anyway, weren't the actresses who played Mrs. Bennett and Lizzy BRILLIANT?
Oh my goodness, I'm going to keep an eye on their careers, cuz I think they definitely have a future ahead of them in the bidness.

Can I confess that I was a little apprehensive about this whole production after we were about 5 minutes into it? You see, all of a sudden I realized, Mr. Darcy would be a character. And, errhm, my experiences with previous Mr. Darcy's (here and here) have been of the schoolgirl crush variety. And it would simply not do for me to be swooning over a college boy. I am proud to report, swooning did not happen. I am growing up.

Last night (Friday night) Max, Drew and I watched:

... which, again, proved that I am growing up.
Almost too old for movies like this.
I could appreciate the cinematography and character development. But the silliness? Not so much. Let's see... how about a 3 out of 5?

Tonight we watched:

Into The Wild.
Heard of it?
'Bout a college grad who gives his life savings ($24,000) to charity, ditches his car, burns his cash and heads to Alaska for an adventure. (WHAT is it with guys and adventures?) It's based on a true story. Max, Drew and I watched it tonight, and it was all good and fine until he (the main character) paddles down the Colorado River and runs into a skinny dipper. With no top on. And for his (the main character's)entire interaction with her, she has her bobbies uncovered. Right there on my TV. With my boys watching. And me saying "fast forward, fast forward".) It was the longest scene of my life. WAY too much bare breastedness. Which, in my opinion. was not vital to the story.

And then, near the end, he drives past a nudist camp. Full frontal female nudity flashed across my screen and I had a hot flash wishing my boys hadn't seen that. Why don't I read the fine print on the back more closely? (Because I can't. I didn't have my glasses along. And I'd started reading the book, and ...) Anyway, we watched it and despite those too-much-skin parts, it was a good story. If you can, watch the sanitized version on an airplane. Or at least don't watch it with your 13 and 17 year old sons.

I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5.

After the movie, the kids played Rockband and then Mario, so I finished reading The Girl Who Stopped Swimming. I liked it.
A dark southern tale of mystery, murder and family secrets. This book had a good story, but the writing in her other book (Between, Georgia) was underlinable.

Lest you think nothing got done around here today, the lawns were cut and the driveway, patio and sidewalks were pressure washed. And, I played, oh, about 15 games of Scramble.
Three things I'm thankful for:
1. The weekend
2. Long conversations with my sister
3. Last minute tickets to the play - thanks Tessa.
Shalom,
Please pray:
1. My dad is going to Delta View on Sunday. This is not an easy thing for us to do...
2. My kids have had a basket case for a mother for too long. Pray that I get my act together and that we all come through this stronger and more dependent on God.
3. My mom's surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, 10:30 am.
Thanks, internet.

I watched Into the Wild a couple of weeks ago. Nobody warned me that the guy died in the end! I felt like someone punched me in the stomach.Brewier and Megan knew it and just assumed I did too.
