Pray-Along. Part Eleven

(If you're just joining me now, I'm in the midst of a day-long intentional time of prayer. Please join me. I'm praying for my kids, and all those kids that God has laid on my heart to love.)

Based on an online Prayer for Children:

We pray for the children (our children, our grandchildren, our Compassion children, our friend's children)

who sneak popsicles before supper, (or cigarettes in the backyard)

who erase holes in math workbooks, (or punch holes in the walls)

who can never find their shoes. (or their car keys).

And we pray for those

who stare at photographers from behind barbed wire, (or stare at doctors with frightened eyes)

who can't bound down the street in a new pair of sneakers, (or can't bound down the street period)

who never "counted potatoes," (or eaten potatoes)

who are born in places where we wouldn't be caught dead, (or who never get born at all)

who never go to the circus, (or whose their lives ARE circuses)

who live in an X-rated world.(or were trafficked into an X-rated world).

We pray for the children (our children, each other's children, our future children-in-law)

who bring us sticky kisses and fistfuls of dandelions, (or bad report cards and dented fenders)

who hug us in a hurry and forget their lunch money. (or forget to hug us and lose their lunch money)

And we pray for those

who never get dessert,

who have no safe blanket to drag behind them,

who watch their parents watch them die,

who can't find bread to steal,

who don't have rooms to clean up,

whose pictures aren't on anybody's dresser,

whose monsters are real.

We Pray for the Children (my kids, your kids, the neighbour kids, your kids' kids)

who spend their allowance before Tuesday, (who can't keep a job)

who throw tantrums in the grocery store and pick at their food, (who throw fits in your home and refuse to eat their food)

who like ghost stories, (and the world of darkness)

who shove dirty clothes (and half-eaten apples) under the bed,

who never rinse out the tub, (or take a bath)

who get visits from the tooth fairy,

who don't like to be kissed in front of the carpool,

who don't go to church and scream in the phone,

whose tears we sometimes laugh at and

whose smiles can make us cry.

And we pray for those

Whose nightmares come in the daytime,

Who get their groceries from the dump,

Who have never seen dentist,

Who aren't spoiled by anybody,

Who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep,

Who live and move, but have no being

We pray for the children

Who want to be carried and for those who must,

Who we never give up on and for those who don't get a second chance.

We pray for those we smother and for those who will grab the hand of

anybody kind enough to offer it.

Dear God, these are the children I am praying for today. All of them. I pray your will be done, and your purposes accomplished in their lives. In Jesus name I  pray for protection, companionship, health and love for these kids today.

Amen
