Listen to this:
I'm going to try something(s) new.
More than one thing because I'm an idiot. And I like setting the bar high.
First.
I'm going to do this:
And to REALLY make it challenging, I'm not going to use my camera.
I'm going to use the one I just bought Drew for his birthday:
I don't know how to use point and shoots.
So this will be fun.
I'll do my self portrait as soon as he gets home.
And will post it later.
Secondly,
I am reading this book:
"If we were left to ourselves with the task of taking the gospel to the world, we would immediately begin planning innovative strategies and plotting elaborate schemes. We would organize conventions, develop programs, and create foundations… But Jesus is so different from us. With the task of taking the gospel to the world, he wandered through the streets and byways…All He wanted was a few men who would think as He did, love as He did, see as He did, teach as He did and serve as He did. All He needed was to revolutionize the hearts of a few, and they would impact the world."
"But then I realize there is never going to be a day when I stand before God and He looks at me and says, 'I wish you would have kept more for yourself.' I'm confident that God will take care of me."
"... every Christian has to wrestle with what Jesus is calling us to do with our resources as we follow Him."
At the end of the book, there is a chapter entitled: The Radical Experiment - ONE YEAR to a Life Turned Upside Down. I'm accepting the challenge. Or at least the first two parts of it. For at least one month. We'll see how things go after that.
The reason I am not absolutely committing to the whole challenge for the entire year is because of this short ted talk:
So. In case you're wondering, the first two parts of the Year Long Challenge are:
- 1. PRAY FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD - "Our most urgent need is to pray for the Lord of the harvest to send out Christians into the harvest field."
To help us pray specifically and intentionally, there is an organization that has developed a prayer guide that contains detailed information on every country, updates on gospel work in every country, and prayer requests for every country. Go to www.operationworld.org and click on Pray Today. Today we are praying for: Micronesia, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau.
-2. READ THROUGH THE ENTIRE WORD - ""If you and I are going to penetrate our culture and the cultures of the world with the gospel, we desperately need minds saturated with God's word." The Bible is the only book that God promised to bless by His Spirit to transform its readers into the image of Jesus Christ.
So the challenge is to systematically, intentionally read through the entire Bible. I'm going to use this:
Thirdly - I am going to challenge myself to walk for 30 minutes every day for 30 days.
Fourthly - I was GOING to challenge myself to GO TO BED at midnight every night for 30 days but it's almost 1 am and I haven't even taken my self portrait yet. Besides, if I'm going to connect with Clint at all - it's going to be after midnight on facebook chat.
Which leads to FIFTHLY - which was going to be me giving up facebook for 30 days. But that's just crazy talk.
So.
That's that.
Three things I'm thankful for:
1. Online sermons. I'm listening to this one as I type.
OH. Maybe I should listen to one on-line sermon a day for 30 days. I should have an ipod. Then I could download them and listen to them when I walk.
No, no, no. I will not spend money on this 30 day challenge. But I will listen to sermons this month. Uh, if anyone has some sermon suggestions, let me know.
2. The bowl of hydrangeas (from my mom's garden) on my kitchen table. So elegant.
(Can you see my reflection in my computer screen? THERE YOU HAVE IT. Today's self portrait.)
3. My boys. Just had a great conversation with my oldest. He had some very helpful ideas regarding file sharing. Seriously. I love this younger generation.
Shalom,
Just kidding - here's the self portrait.
Taken at 1:30 am with no make up left on my face.
Yawn.
Gnite.
