End of Week Wrap Up

( I started this post on Sunday night, when it really was an end of week wrap up...)

Movies I saw:

The August one?
Quite dark.
If you need some comedic moments in your life, or maybe a bit of romance, this is not the movie for you.
A hope-less, sad, peek into a very dysfunctional family's relationships.

I DID leave the theatre feeling very good about my own family, however.
And everyone WAS acting their guts out - so I imagine they'll get a few awards for their effort.

Looking back, it left me with the same feeling of heaviness that I had after seeing Wolf on Wall Street.

The Jack Ryan one?
Well, Chris Pine stars in this, so there's that.
Unfortunately, Keira Knightley is in it too.
I, personally, did not detect one ounce/second/random-unit-of-measurement of chemistry between them.
But other than that, it delivered 2 hours of entertainment, so I did not feel ripped off.

Things I learned this weekend:

How to do a self check-out at London Drugs. First time ever. Welcome to this century, Jane.

What a micro USB cable is. And why I needed one. Lookit me. So techy.

I read my first book on Kindle. And it wasn't awful. In fact, it was fine. I learned how to highlight my favorite parts. Now I'm wondering if there's a way to gather all my favorite highlighted parts? Something to google I suppose.

First kindle-read book:

And even though I'd read it before, in like a real-book format, I still was moved by the story and still sobbed like a heart-sick teenager when *someone dies EVEN THOUGH I READ IT ELECTRONICALLY.

I learned how to upload photos from my phone's camera roll to instagram. (Clint pointed out the icon-link that made it all make sense for me.) So, yes, along the side, over there -----> ; is a link to my instragram account. Click on it if you want to see the pics I take on my phone. They're mostly crap. But I am determined to learn how to use it more effectively. I can't always have my camera with me.

Thought I had:

"I choose you."

I think those might be the best words a woman can hear from her husband. And not just when they get engaged or married. But every time she feels insecure, by real or imaginary threats. Because there are a whole lotta threats out there.

Songs that have been recommended to me:

I asked on Facebook for music suggestions and received the following list:

"Ain't no rest for the wicked" by cage the elephant.
"Radio" - Darius Rucker and "Sober" Little Big Town
Lorde "Buzzcut Season" and Phil Wickham "Carry My Soul"
Kangaroo Court & Safe and Sound - Capital Cities
We all need some light- Transatlantic
Damien Rice - Cannon Ball
Mew - 156
'What a wonderful world'
Switchfoot's new album
Building 429- Where I belong..and Newsboys- Restart
Leona Lewis - Happy
royals by lorde & all the single ladies by beyonce

Three things I'm thankful for:

1. My weekend walks. On one of them, I ran into a friend from my way-back past, so we walked together, doing hills and catching up. And another one? Did a night walk with Mandi. And caught up with her too. Both walks were probably divinely meddled with, as I tend to 'zone out' (like Walter Mitty) when I walk, and I day dream about an alternate reality. Which? Really? Is probably a waste a time. So rather than be all caught up inside my own head, He provided me with some walking companions and conversation.

2. That I laughed my head off tonight. Which I really needed because the earlier part of the evening was book club and we talked about Fault in Our Stars, which, obvs, I loved. But others didn't. So there was that. (That feeling of being sad because someone didn't love something as much as you did.) But also, someone dies in the story. And that's just sad too.

But then I discovered David Thorne. And goodness gracious. I was laughing so hard I couldn't see my laptop screen through my tears. I love dry, written humor. So I decided I was going to marry him. But after I wikipedia'd him, I saw that he was already married. So I was back to being single and sad again.

Here's the thing that started it all for him in 2008:

Dear Jane,
Are you sure this drawing of a spider is the one I sent you? This spider only has seven legs and I do not feel I would have made such an elementary mistake when I drew it.
Regards, David.

Hello, I am back and have read through your emails and accept that despite missing a leg, that drawing of a spider may indeed be the one I sent you. I realise with hindsight that it is possible you rejected the drawing of a spider due to this obvious limb ommission but did not point it out in an effort to avoid hurting my feelings. As such, I am sending you a revised drawing with the correct number of legs as full payment for any amount outstanding. I trust this will bring the matter to a conclusion.
Regards, David.

I understand and will definitely make a payment this week if I remember. As you have not accepted my second drawing as payment, please return the drawing to me as soon as possible. It was silly of me to assume I could provide you with something of completely no value whatsoever, waste your time and then attach such a large amount to it.
Regards, David.

Another funny one is here - called The Ducks are Not Mine.

The one that really had me laughing though has some bad words in it, so I won't link to it as I'd probably lose my job and 4 friends.

3. And the third thing I'm thankful for is creative people. I am always thankful for this, aren't I? We talked tonight about which author we'd like to sit and chat with for a few hours, and the answers that others were brave enough to share were all non-fiction Christian writers who write advice/self-help books. They are experts at something, and have written about it.

My answer was nothing like that, (I'd love to visit with someone who has created characters and places and situations and how do they do that?) so I didn't say anything, other than, in most cases, thanks to social media, we can easily connect with our favorite authors online.

I am thankful for people with great imaginations. I am thankful that God saw that it was good to equip people to be gifted in the art of keeping me entertained. Meryl Streep is an awesome actress because God made her that way. Diana Gabaldon writes epic novels because God equipped her with an amazing imagination. And so on.

So. Tonight, again, I'm thankful for gifted folk. Those that write funny emails and those that write moving songs and those that write sad books.

And during this awards season (which, sob, I'm missing because I don't have a TV) I'm thankful for the actors and directors and producers who use their gifts to bring written words to life.

Peace, friends.
xo
