Yikes. Today's prompts are dumb:
1. One thing that brings me joy on a cold day.
2. A Christmas movie that isn't a Christmas movie.
3. Memories from the year that make you smile, no matter how ordinary.
Uhhhh.
#3.
Ordinary Memories from the year (not engagements or travel memories ... ordinary memories) that make me smile.
(How do you recall events of the year? Your calendar? A journal? Or do you, like me, check Facebook? WHAT DID WE DO BEFORE WE SHARED OUR LIVES ON SOCIAL MEDIA?) (Oh wait. I know. I had photo albums.)
I just did a quick FB stroll through 2025 (not a big sharing year for me) and the ordinary things that still bring a smile are:
On Feb 10, Martina and I took her car's new battery for a long drive and ended up at Sidekicks Brewery to play Pub Trivia. My first time ever. It's my new thing. I've done it twice since.
On Feb 14, I drove around, hiding ducks, dropping of cards, cookies and tulips. A random guy in the grocery store bought me flowers. First time ever.
On May 22, a hummingbird started visiting my deck. The day I wore a facial mask he flew right up to my face to take a closer look. Until that day, he was mostly just concerned with the flowers. Haha. First time ever. And I love his (her?) company when I'm out there.
On July 27, Mackenzie shaved my legs. First time ever.
And family dinners this fall; we set of the smoke detector/fire alarm MULTIPLE times while preparing our Thanksgiving meal. Then when we met again at the end of November, the drain got clogged (with potato peels) causing dirty water to bubble up into the kitchen sink, creating a group project (involving friends in the building and online as well as my boys in person) called Operation Snake. Then we did paint-by-numbers. So much happy when my kids are over, despite the road bumps.
There were likely many other moments that made me smile, but I posted them to STORIES, so they disappeared after 24 hours.
Uh, so this is a nice segway into my latest purchase...
My friend, Kim Nav has one of these and has been making entries every evening for the past few years. I have been envious of this discipline she has... the ability to sum up the day in a few sentences. And envious of the resulting documentation she has regarding HOW she has lived each day in her one wild and beautiful life.

But I'm shuddering when I think how old I'll be when I've finished this lil project in 5 years.
Three things I'm thankful for:
1. The Christmas lights that just got strung up in the courtyard, visible from my window. I'll take a photo tomorrow. Maybe.
2. THIS Instagram account. His sisters gave him 24 Advent gifts with instructions to hand them out/give them away every day. I'm totally invested in this project. For example, the Day 2 gift was supposed to be given to a Becca in Buxton. He had to go to Buxton (he lives in London, and ask around if anyone knew a Becka). Day 4 was for Charlie in Cardiology. He called around to hospitals to see if there was a Charles, Charlie or Charlotte who worked in the cardiology department.
ANYWAY, so fun.
3. Creativity. In all it's forms.
Thanks for dropping by,
xo
