Patella Femoral Pain Syndrome

Posted by Hello
Do you remember back in December I wrote about my big fall in the lunch room at work? And how I crashed to the floor, landing on my knees? And how I ended up skinning both knees so they got 'razzberries' on them?

Well, they've hurt ever since. Excrutiating pain flairs up whenever I walk down stairs, sit with them bent (especially when I drive) or kneel.

I thought it would just go away.
My mom said it was arthritus and it was here to stay. I haven't gone to see a doctor because all he ever says to me is 'exercise'. Apparently that's the cure-all for everything.

I'm leaving for Europe in 8 days. I will sit with my knees bent on the plane and on the bus all through Europe. And when I get to Italy, I will have many many steps to negotiate. (Think Grouse Grind x 5)

I'm scared.

So tonight I googled "arthritus".
But got this:
Knee Joint Pain - Patella Femoral pain Syndrome:
The associated pain is experienced during activity, especially stair climbing, running, jumping and after getting up from prolonged sitting. Women are more predisposed to this problem for anatomical reasons and also the use of high heels.
Causes for patella femoral syndrome include weak quadriceps muscles, injury to the knee and obesity.

It's nice to know the symptons have been real. The pain is not just a figment of my imagination. I'm to rest my knees, ice them and take anti-inflamatories. As much as possible, I shouldn't sit with them bent.

Europe, here I come.

Jane, get yourself to a doctor pronto and get some meds. While traveling on the plane, get up every half hour and stand for awhile. On one trip I saw a fellow stand the whole way, nothing wrong with stretching those knees. I don't want to have to worry about you the whole time you are away.... look after yourself you are very important to me and your boys, we love you.

Jane -- GET TO A DOCTOR. Or I'm gonna wear out my knees praying for you on this trip.
