It doesn't rain in Phoenix.
I've got airmiles.
I need a vacation.
So I dreamt and searched and plodded and it was determined that yes, at $79 per flight (one way) I could see some sunshine soon. Spring Break 07. So could my boys. It would be grand. No, really, it would be, because I had figgered out a way to spend a day at the Grand Canyon.
And then, well, on Monday, when I was all set to make a monetary commitment to the airline, the rate disappeared. They doubled it. Probably a shady business anyway- their fleet consists of ONE plane. And their inaugral flight was last Saturday.
But still.
So, some friends and I are negotiating.
They and all the kids are totally up for a road trip. I can't think of a worse way to start and end a holiday. Maybe if I had some drugs.
We'll see.

Anyway, somehow in the midst of travel planning and spending some quality time with Drew watching downloaded episodes of the third season of The Office, I managed to finish book #33:
I don't do that here at Pix n Prose. Mostly I just keep score.
I will however reprint a quote from page 83:
" Many aspects of our screen-bound lives are bad for our social skills simply because we get accustomed to controlling the information that comes in, managing our relationships electronically, and deleting the stuff that doesn't interest us. Sitting at screens and clicking buttons is a very bad training for life in the real word."
And near the end of the book, she lists (on page 152) "Twenty Reasons to Show Special Politeness to Other People:
1. they are older
2. they know more than you do
3. they know less than you do
4. they got here first
5. they have educational qualifications in the subject under discussion
6. you are in their house
7. they once helped you financially
8. they have been good to you all your life
9. they are less fortunate than you
10. they have achieved status in the wider world
11. you are serving them in a shop
12. they are in the right
13. they are your boss
14. they work for you
15. they are a pliceman/doctor/teacher/judge
16. they are in need
17. they are doing you a favor
18. they paid for the tickets
19. you phoned them, not the other way around
20. they have a menial job."
Something to keep in mind...
So, the day is over. Time to think about what I'm thankful for:
1. After a rocky start this afternoon, Drew and I had a decent evening.
2. Max's second semeter class schedule is finalized. Painful. (The Digital Media 11 class he took last fall at the Langley Education Centre, and got a "B" in, is not being recognized by the Tech teacher at Poppy, despite assurances last September that it was fully transferable. He has to redo it this semester before he can take Digital Media 12. Was that ever a waste of $300 and hours of driving. Don't even get me started on this Distance Ed nightmare we've been farting around with since September.)
3. Seeing the whole "fly to Arizona" plan fell apart, I don't need to take a day off work to stand in line for 8 hours to get Drew a passport. Always a silver lining if you look hard enough ...
Shalom,
