Oh those Menno's.
Gotta love them.
I went to church with about half of the folks there.
And was related to the other half.
I never made it out of the centre hall ... I kept running into familar faces.
Faces from my past.
Faces that I've loved and that have loved me.
Faces that I've avoided for 10 years.
When you marry your high profile (student council president) highschool sweetheart - everyone knows you as markandjane ... you do not go to highschool reunions as justjane.
And I guess that's how I felt about showing up at the MCC Fair as a single woman. I was a Klassen but became an O (non-Klassen); plus I'm about 100 pounds heavier than the last time I went.
But it didn't matter. My people are friendly. They were lovely towards my dad. And kept mixing me and my sister up. I chatted with friends from all my past churches, including the one I grew up in and the two that I shut down.
This is my heritage. And it is a good thing.
Three things I'm thankful for:
1. The fair will raise a couple million dollars for relief aid. I'm proud to be a Mennonite.
2. The cabin has an internet connection! There are 5 of us here for the night; three of us have laptops along.
3. I love this place. I love being here.
Shalom,
