Just Say No

Know what happens when you spend a Friday night at the MCC Fair and then head up to your parent's cabin to clean up for the weekend and then go directly from there to your cousin's place to celebrate her daughter's engagement and then go home and do just enough laundry to get you through the next 3 days which you will spend in too-tight shoes on a fun-filled business trip to Calgary, and then come home to such a dysfunctional mess that it causes your stomach lining to inflate so you spend a day writhing in pain and then you feel good enough to go to work the next day so you do and then after that you go to a movie and then out for eatsand talk and then the next day you buy just enough groceries to last 3 days and do just enough laundry to last 3 days because you need the next 12 hours to get ready for, drive to, stand in line at, enjoy, then drive home from a play in a tent in Vancouver, and on the way home you stop at Safeway at 11:30 pm to buy those things you'll need for the next day's adventures which involve a big boat, lots of water, and a few grumpy kids - which is all fine except that how were you to know that the effects of being on the ocean would last for 24 hours, making you dizzy and whatnot?

Know what happens when you've lived through a week like that? (Not to mention the OTHER stuff that happened that was all too private to blog about but involved broken trust, hurt feelings, misunderstandings and tension-filled drama...) Know what happens?

On your drive home from work, where you stayed an extra hour and a half, you say to yourself, "I am NOT going out tonight. I am staying home. And cleaning up the crap that is lying everywhere. I am going to determine which of the 100 "twisted" photos I took for my photography class is cool enough to show to my 20-something-year-old class mates so they don't judge me as being non-artistic or old fashioned. (Forget about how well it was photographed - what's really at stake here is my interpretation of the word "twisted)" I will stay home. And get on top of the chaos that is swirling out of control around me. I will stay home."

The phone rings.
"Hello?"
"Hey. Brenda and I are getting together tonight to plan a really fun thing to do next summer. Can you come too? It would be better if you could be here."
"What time and where?"
"Well, I don't really want to go out tonight, so we're meeting at my house. At 7. This isn't a problem is it? Drew's at his dad's and you're usually free on Monday nights..."

Sigh.
And tomorrow night is my photography class.
And Wednesday morning I've got to have Clint at the airport by 5:30 am.
And Thursday evening I have to set up for the Executive Leadership Seminar ... (want to come, by the way?) and Friday is the day of the seminar. And I cannot have a repeat of last year.

I am not complaining. Oh no. I am not.
I'd like a personal assistant though. Or a wife. Someone who will make sure the house runs smoothly whilst I flitter hither and yon.

Three things I'm thankful for:
1. I had 15 spare minutes to blog.
2. I'm not wearing too-tight shoes.
3. I'm getting together with friends to Plan Something Fun.

Shalom,

Let's go halvsies on a wife. You can have her Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and I'll take Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday mornings because my house is smaller and I don't have 3 kids. She can have Sunday afternoon off. Except around holidays.

Oh no you don't. I'm the one who needs a wife. We'll split her in thirds, NO LESS.
