After 2 months of cancelled/postponed dinner arrangements, Marg, Patty and I finally got it together this evening. We met at Boston Pizza then saw Crazy Heart afterwards.
As I was sitting there, I realized, that while I may not be a fan necessarily, I do not outright hate country music. I can easily tolerate it. (Maybe because I was raised on it.)
In fact, based on the soundtrack, I might even download some of the tunes I ended up humming along to tonight.
Have you seen it?
The story line reminded me of Johnny Cash (and probably all entertainers who end up in the toilet because of alcohol and drug dependencies). It was just so sad...
And Jeff "Bad" reminded me of my dad. The scruffy beard, long grey hair, big belt buckle, turquoise on a bulky silver watch band, and the way he instinctively knew how to interact with 4 year old boys.
The ending was good. And he deserved the Oscar.
But I left the theater aching for those who rely on alcohol/drugs to deal with life's disappointments as well as life's celebrations. According to the RAPS4 Clinical Screening Test, if your answer is yes to any of the following questions, please get help:
1. Have you had a feeling of guilt or remorse after drinking/being stoned?
2. Has a friend or family member ever told you about the things you said or did while you were drinking that you could not remember?
3. Have you failed to do what was normally expected of you because of drinking/drug use?
4. Do you sometimes take a drink/hit when you first get up in the morning?
Three things I'm thankful for:
1. Friends who keep me busy on evenings when there's no one waiting for me at home.
2. Evidence of answered prayer. Aslan is on the move.
3. Second chances.
Shalom,
