Something VERY heavy is lumbering around in my attic.

And it's freakin me out.

I've banged the ceiling with a broom handle and loudly announced that "This is Jane's House. And rats? You. Are. Not. Welcome. Here."

Then I put in my earbuds, pretended there wasn't a party of rodents pooping in my attic and listened to a few sermons online:
1. Carolyn at South Langley Church (Carolyn is my friend and blogger.) She talks about prayer. Her notes are here.
2. Kayely at Point Grey Baptist (Kayely and I work together. She talks about love.)

It's kinda cool listening to their voices while sitting at my kitchen table. It's almost like they're here, right beside me, helping me keep my mind busy with good, challenging thoughts so I don't obsess about the noises above.

I should encourage more of my friends to preach sermons... I love listening to their wisdom.

Prayer for the morning:
(in that 'holier' old English language) -

Almighty and eternal God,
... who alone knowest what lies before me this day, grant that in every hour of it, I may stay close to Thee. Let me be in the world, yet not of it. Let me today embark on no undertaking that is not in line with Thy will for my life, not shrink from any sacrifice which Thy will may demand. Suggest, direct, control every movement of my mind for Your sake.

Let my first thought today be of Thee, let my first impulse be to worship Thee, let my first speech be Thy name, let my first action be to kneel before Thee in prayer.

Let me not, when this morning prayer is said, think my worship ended and spend the day in forgetfulness of Thee. Rather, from these moments of quietness, let light go forth, and joy, and power, that will remain with me through all the hours of the day:

  • Keep me chaste in thought
  • Keep me temperate and truthful in speech
  • Keep me faithful and diligent in my work
  • Keep me humble in my estimation of myself
  • Keep me honorable and generous in my dealings with others
  • Keep me loyal to every hallowed memory of the past
  • Keep me mindful of my eternal destiny as a child of Thine.
Be my Guide through all that is dark and doubtful. Be my Guard against all that threatens my spirit's welfare. Be my strength in time of testing. Gladden my heart with Thy peace -
through Jesus our Lord,

Amen*

Three things I'm thankful for:
1. Naps
2. Suppers by myself: Bagel with cinnamon and brown sugar and a cuppa tea.
3. Opportunity to be creative; another photoshoot at Avalon next week. Yay.

Shalom,

*Prayer from 'Diary of a Private Prayer' - John Baillie
