Advent 2

 Two for two.

On. A. Roll.

Referring back to yesterday's post; I have three content options for today:

  • Something I want to achieve this December
  • One way I'm different from my younger self, and one way I'm the same.
  • Three ways I've helped other people this year, even if it's gone unnoticed.
Which prompt would YOU answer?

The last one, about helping people, is kinda boring. Really can't write a decent blog post about praying, feeding or driving...

And the middle one seems like navel gazing. Who cares how much I've changed (or not) over the years?

So that leaves the first one; something I want to achieve this December. I do love a good list:

1. Scroll-free Saturdays. I have been convicted of my need to reduce the amount of hours I spend mindlessly scrolling through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter (x). I want to scale it WAY back so I'll start by eliminating that activity on Saturdays. I'll still receive and send messages on Messenger, What's App and Insta DM's, but (fingers crossed) hopefully I can stay away from social media.

2. Eat 12 salads. Hahaha. Most of you eat a salad a day. I MIGHT eat one a week. I'm challenging myself to eat a whole dozen this month. (To that end, what's your favorite salad? What are the key ingredients that make salads so delicious for you?)

3. Put Christmas cards in the mail before the end of the month. This is a moving target; to be honest, I'm totally OK if these don't get mailed til March. But for the purposes of this post, let's agree that a Dec 24 mail date is what I'm aiming for.

4. And I guess the other, (bloggable) goals, are the seasonally typical ones: purchase, exquisitely wrap, and give exceptional, profoundly personal, incredibly thoughtful gifts to everyone I love. And bake the absolute best, most traditional, mouth-watering delicacies everyone has ever tasted. I set the standard so unobtainably high that I'm paralyzed with the thought that it'll all be Just. Too. Average.  Just. Too. Meh. (Last year I gave out gift cards. And did the Christmas baking with Clint at midnight on Christmas Eve.) I suck at some parts of Christmas.

(But THIS year? I rocked at the whole Advent Calendar thing. So there's that.)

Update:
I wrote the above on Dec 2 at 10 pm, but didn't post it because I was going to add the three things I'm thankful for when I got back.
Where did I go at 10 pm, you ask?
To the Vancouver International Airport to pick up some friends, then drive them home.

I got back to my place at 1:30 am and forgot to finish this.

TWO DAYS IN and I lost my momentum.

S i g h ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three things I'm thankful for:
1. A GORGEOUS night for a couple hours of driving. Clear skies, empty highways, good company on the return trip.
2. Friends who sit at my table to make things.
3.Memes.
They're kinda like Bible verses (Proverbs, maybe), yeah?
Thanks for dropping by,
xo
