Unconquerable

Drew and his friends were going to spend the evening babysitting Drew's little brother, so while they waited for their ride, they climbed my walls:

As soon as they left, I tidied the kitchen, turned off the fireplaces, flicked off the lights in the family room and kitchen, locked the front door, and zipped over to Colossus to see my 45th movie in 18 days:
I loved it.
And have just spent a half hour reading all that Wikipedia has to say about Nelson Mandela.
Invictus means "unconquerable" in latin and this is the poem:

"I am the master of my fate.
I am the captain of my soul."

If you are in the business of leadership development, there is some good material in this movie. At one point I wished I had brought my notebook from work along - there were some decent quotable speeches being uttered. As well as a few words of wisdom on the topic of forgiveness.

Afterwards we went out for a bite to eat and to chew on our thoughts regarding the movie, our kids, our jobs, our relationships with God... you know, typical girl talk.

I drove everyone home and pulled into my garage just before midnight. The fireplaces were on, the TV was on, my computer speakers were humming, opened juice and pop cans were open on the counter, my collection of cold meds were spread over the other counter, the front door was unlocked and every light on the main floor was on.

Clint must've been here, I said to myself.
I called him. "Sooooo? Remember the last time you were here and I asked you to please lock the front door when you leave, and the time before that? I asked you to lock the front door? And that other time? The front door? And the locking of it? I'm guessing you were here while I was out?"

"Yeah. I was really sick so I came over and lay on your couch for 4 hours. Then I thought I'd go get something to eat and come right back but everyone wanted to go to Nan's house to hang out in her basement, so I won't be back. I thought I'd leave things out so that if anyone broke in they'd see that someone lives there."

You just can't argue with a 22 year old's logic.

Three things I'm thankful for:
1. Movies based on real events. History has never been so interesting.
2. Safe neighbourhoods.
3. My kids' friends. My friends' kids. My friends.

Shalom,

MAN. I did it again.
It's 1:52 am and I forgot to talk about today's question... What's the most important decision you need to make this year?

Well. If both Clint and Max are not moving back home, like if this is "it" and I'm over 2/3 on my way to being a real empty nester, then I have to decide whether or not to keep this house. Four bedrooms? All this space? Really? Do I keep it? Or should I start the downsizing process already?

As long as my mom keeps her big house with the party room downstairs, my kids will not have gatherings at my house. So, Clint may stop in and sleep on my couch when he's sick. But if he's going to get together with his friends, it won't be here. The kids' dad added a party room to his property last year, and that too is starting to be seen as a hangout option for the boys as well. So. Do I move into a two bedroom condo with Drew and decrease my cost of living substantially? Or do I stay here for two more years and then look into senior's housing once Drew graduates? :)

Drew asked if we could buy a house with lots of land so he could "do stuff" on it. I think he misses the farm.

I'm not ready to be an empty nester yet. I still long for a house full of people. My people. My boy people.

Sigh.

But. If this is it. Well then. I just need to suck it up buttercup and get on with it. So that'll be a big decision this year. Should I stay or should I go now.

The other one is WHAT TYPE OF VEHICLE SHOULD I BUY? I must replace the Durango. It's got two months of life left in it and I have to deal with that.

Yeah. Two big purchase decisions to make. A house and a car. And I only work part time and I'm getting all anxious just thinking about it.

OK goodnight now.

They occasionally move back in. Just thought I'd mention that.
