Pray-Along. Part One.

From A Diary of Private Prayer by John Baille

Holy Spirit Of God, be present now within my heart and guide my prayer.

For all the gracious opportunities and privileges of this day, I give thanks:
Thanks for the rest from the daily round of deeds,
Thanks for the house of prayer and ministry of public worship,
Thanks for communion, as I eat and drink it, I remember our Lord's death and taste His living presence,
Thanks for the books I've read and the music that has uplifted me,
Thanks for the friendly conversation I've had with loved ones,
And thanks for the Sabbath rest and peace of my home.

Grant, Oh heavenly Father, that the spiritual refreshment I have enjoyed today may not be left behind and forgotten as tomorrow I return to the cycle of common tasks. May I rely on You as a fountain of inward strength. May I rely on You as a purifying wind that blows through my business and my pleasure. May I rely on You as a light to brighten my road. God, enable me to discipline my will that in hours of stress I may honestly seek after those things for which I have prayed in these hours of peace.

And now, when I lie down to sleep, I commit all my dear ones to Your unsleeping care, through Jesus our Lord.
