Summer's Eve

Just in case you're wondering, I am still sick.
The average person would halt all extra curricular activities to sleep. And drink apple juice.

I am clearly not average.

Last night, Val and I met for a long overdue visit.
It is a rare thing when the stars align for us to have a block of time to just sit and talk. After months of saying "we've got to get together" last night was THE night.
We were not going to let sore throats and hacking coughs get in the way.
Like synchronized conversationalists, we talked and coughed our way through 4 hours of updates. It was probably a beautiful thing to watch (2 cousins -  one dark, one blonde, sitting and talking earnestly) but likely a frustrating thing to hear (2 cousins - one dark, one blonde, punctuating every other sentence with an annoying barking cough).

After that, at like, oh, 10 pm, I drove over to my mom's place to drop off a few things and to use up the last of my voice. By the time I left, at midnight, there was no sound in my throat, and no energy in my bones.

I had two meetings at work today, and I was there, in both body and spirit for both of them. My cough ripples pain through my back and makes my head pound. And my voice? My inside talking voice? Is low, raspy, hoarse, unreliable and very sexy. I could pass for a cigarette smokin' Demi Moore. (Audibly. Not visually.)

I stayed for my full shift, then came home, fully intending on sleeping for a few hours in the sunshine that peaked out this afternoon for the first time this week thank goodness.

But my phone rang, and it was Clint. He and Max were going over to my mom's place to work on a project and there was no way, no how I was going to sleep through that.

And so here we are again, almost midnight and my head feels like it's been bashed at the base by a 2 x 4.

So worth it.

Three things I'm thankful for:

1. My mom's deck.

2. This boy:

3. And this one:

Shalom,

Is this not the coolest thing evah?
(Point the pen at an object. It will pick up the color.)
Fascinating.

I love this idea. Every anniversary (or 5th anniversary, or birthday, or Christmas or whatever) - take a photo of you holding last year's photo.)
