I Changed My Mind

I don't want to move.
Or if I have to, which I kinda do, seeing I signed the contract 'n all, then I don't want anyone living below me in a basement suite. And I don't want to live 10 inches from my neighbours.

Because tonight.
Tonight I am dancing.

And I'm afraid that I'll never be able to do that in a house that I live in ever again.

~~~~~~~~~~
Do you remember a few months ago, I shared this video that Connie had posted on her blog?
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.
Go on. Listen to it.
Loudly, if possible.
Such a good song, no?
I've been listening to that song, NON STOP since I was introduced to it:
Everybody want romance
Everybody want safety
Everybody want comfort
Everybody but me
I'm a man on fire
Walking down your street
With one guitar
And two dancing feet
Only one desire
That's still in me
I want the whole damn world
To come and dance with me
I love this band.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And.
And last weekend?
Mumford and Sons were in town.
I tried to get tickets, but they were sold out even before they went on sale so that sucked for me.
So I stayed home, turned the speakers up and listened/sang along/danced in my family room. It was OK but not the same as being there live, with thousands of other fans.

This song? Is on my commute-playlist. I listen to it every morning on my drive to work:

I WILL WAIT

So I'll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So tame my flesh
And fix my eyes
That tethered mind free from the lies

But I'll kneel down
Wait for now
I'll kneel down
Know my ground

Raise my hands
Paint my spirit gold
And bow my head
Keep my heart slow

Cause I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you
And I will wait, I will wait for you

(Did you watch the video? UNBEEEELIEVABLE concert venue, no? Attending a concert in that amphitheater is so on my bucket list.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I was 16, I attended my first rock concert. It was a real date with my boyfriend, and it took place the day before we started grade 11, on the Monday of the Labor Day long weekend.The band was Fleetwood Mac, and the venue was the Colosseum at the PNE. We went early in the afternoon and went on rides, watched the demolition derby, ate a ton of junk food and then sat through a magical, wondrous evening. It was 1977 and Rumours had just been released.
Fleetwood became "my" band.
Psshaw.
What for did I know about the angst behind these songs until 1998 when all of a sudden I got it.
Second Hand News, and The Chain became my theme songs. I listened to them over and over and over again.
Second Hand News:
I know there's nothing to say
Someone has taken my place
When times go bad
When times go rough
Won't you lay me down in tall grass
And let me do my stuff
I'm just second hand news
I'm just second hand news
Yah
I'm just second hand news
I'm just second hand news
Yah
The Chain:
Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise
Run in the shadows
Damn your love, damn your lies
And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying you would never break the chain
And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying you would never break the chain
Fleetwood Mac was in town over the May long weekend.
Once I found out that some, if not all, of my kids would come see them with me, I tried to get tickets. But there were only single seats left at Roger's Arena.
I would have loved to have seen them again - thirty six years after my first concert experience. With the sons I made with that boyfriend from 1977.
It was not meant to be.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

ALL THAT TO SAY, when Clint posted a Sasquatch Review on Facebook this afternoon, I felt a hot surge of raw jealously bubble up inside me. He was at the Gorge (my all time favorite place to experience music) and the last song of the weekend (Sasquatch is a three day festival) was the headlining band's last encore song. Mumford and Sons (!), with special guests Edward Sharpe and the Zeroes (!), singing Fleetwood Mac's THE CHAIN (!). He said there were, like, 30 musicians on the stage.
!

I. Can't. Even.

I told Clint that if I couldn't be there, the next best thing would be having my kid experience AND APPRECIATE it.

Which leads me to Murrayville Memory #2

Dancing in this house.

I don't have any pictorial evidence that this ever happened. But it did. Just ask Drew. The first time he saw me dancing in the family room, he drop-tackled me into the pantry. "MOM! Someone could have seen you!" he said pointing at the windows. "If you have to move, do it in there."

(By the way, I have a completely private back yard. No one can see into our family room unless they are standing in it.)

I am going to miss having a private backyard. And the freedom to listen to music loud enough to dance to at midnight. And the freedom to jump and spin on the floor whenever I feel like it.

These have been good years.

Three things I'm thankful for:

1. Memories
2. Music
3. MMmmm. I need another M word.

Moving is so hard...I'm always torn; it's hard to leave a place where so many happy memories were made. I have a dance habit too, though it's usually at night after everyone is in bed. I listen to my ipod and dance around my bedroom....except now we are in a two story house with very creaky wood floors and my secret dance habit is secret no more.

I saw Fleetwood Mac with my dad several years ago- it was A-MAZE-ING. I think they'll probably come around again... you'll get your shot again I betcha :)
